President Joe Biden's press conference
President Biden reiterated his determination to continue his presidential campaign despite mounting calls for him to step aside. In a lengthy press conference following the NATO summit, Biden firmly defended his decision, expressing confidence in his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump once again.
"I believe I'm the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him once and I will beat him again," Biden asserted. He emphasized that his focus remains on completing the tasks he started rather than his legacy.
Responding to concerns from Democratic circles about his candidacy, Biden affirmed his resolve: "I'm determined on running, and it's important for me to alleviate fears by being visible out there." He highlighted the strength of his campaign efforts in key battleground states.
During the press conference, Biden fielded questions on various topics, showing animation particularly on economic issues and gun violence prevention. He admitted to occasional misspeaks, including referring to Vice President Harris as "Vice President Trump," which he corrected quickly.
Reflecting on his vice president, Biden expressed confidence in Harris's qualifications, emphasizing, "I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump if I didn’t think she was not qualified to be president."
Despite calls for him to consider stepping aside, Biden dismissed such notions, asserting that he will continue unless polling unequivocally indicates he cannot win. He acknowledged ongoing concerns about his performance but remained resolute in his belief that he is the best candidate to govern and secure victory in the election.
